Crossing A Mega-Metro City

When we started crossing this rather large metro area this morning, I did not expect that tonight we are still technically still in the city, after 60 miles of urban/suburban bike "touring"!
But we are kamped at a komfortable KOA, I know that is the wrong spelling. I was just trying to be funny. Let's see, what else today? Beautiful temperatures in the 70's, no wind, light traffic and kudos to Adventure Cycling map team for a great route through the city. In fact, if you were so inclined you could easily do a century ride on an out-and-back and never get off a bike route! Back to the hills and small towns tomorrow. We are now officially on the second of 7 of the maps, see picture to maybe see the elevation profile of the first section, San Diego to here.

Phoenix, AZ

After the camping on the side of the road, we had a nice day of riding through desert flats, Saguaro cactus hillsides into Wickenburg, about 25 miles. It's always rewarding to have to work for a good cup of Joe!
We also rode for a while with two guys Simon and Mike from Oceanside, CA. Thanks guys for the company!
From Wickenburg into the Mega-lopolis of Phoenix, it was time to be very safety-conscious with all of our bright clothes on and helmets. Anyway, our "warmup" week of riding is over and we are feeling good. 400 miles down and 2600 to go!

Forgot to post this fortune, we ate at a Panda Xpress on the drive from Logan, so far we are heeding the advice.

Great Adventuring in Arizona

One of the most pleasant days on the bike so far. We rode from Quartzite to just east of Aguila, AZ.

Quartzite, AZ

Great day on the bikes down here in the desert, even riding on the Interstate for a spell wasn't bad. We crossed the Colorado river and now have put California in the rear.
We even found a nice pizza joint here with lots of happy people (retirees$! Highs in the low 70's, chilly at night.

Last Full Day in California

This is California? Anyway, we toughed out a 70 miler today with strong winds not directly at our chins, but slightly to the side, what do sailors call that type of wind? We had sand drifting over the road, but gorgeous desert. Even a mountain range called,"the Chocolate mountains".
Our camp (in photo) is on the bank of what is left of the Colorado river. We are in Palo Verde, CA. Time for bed!
